about

To all John Watermann fans:
Today is the 20th anniversary of his death. 1935.02.19 – 2002.04.02
Also the announcement of the L(a)st Recordings: Watermann/Jenerik collaboration. Which should be released this year on Mobilization Records.

I deeply apologize to you all for not realizing the project John and I were working on just prior to his death. Personal issues kept me from fulfilling the intent we had embarked upon all those years ago. But that is no excuse for not making available for 20 years, what are perhaps, his last recordings. John was a mentor and friend, and he deserved better.

I had enjoyed listening to his recordings “Ambiguity” and “Dummyhead” at the same time in quad. One sound system playback in front, one in the rear. The space in the recordings worked perfectly, fitting the two albums together seamlessly. I suggested to him we do a collaboration where we each record an album that stands up individually. But when one played both albums together it created a third/collaborative recording. He sent me his ‘finished’ recording at the beginning of 2002. A recording that was significantly more dense sonically than what I was expecting of for the collaboration. I was having trouble finding space to make the ‘blend’ work. We were discussing ways to approach this, and ultimately he said “l’ll leave this up to you”. Shortly after he died.

The release will follow this format of individual full length albums from each of us, and the quad collaborative result. John’s album is five tracks with a total length of 59:16. I will most likely do a limited run of physical ‘fetish boxes’ as well.

I first met John, while curating the “Interference” CD/Book, released on 23Five Incorporated in 1996. And am making available his two tracks, “Snake Pit #2”, and “French UFO’s” (with the thankful permission of Jen Boyd at 23Five). Given this release has long been out of print, perhaps many of you do not have these recordings. Enjoy!

Again, apologies for the delay in realizing this project. Please feel free to share this information. PM me your email address if you would like to be informed when it is released.

All the best,
Scot Jenerik
